MIAMI, FL—Two
cyclists were hospitalized with various
injuries following a
hit-and-run crash that occurred on
Miami’s Rickenbacker Causeway at approximately 5:15 a.m. on Feb. 15. CBS Miami reports suggested Miami Police have yet to identify or locate the motorist who fled the scene of the violent
cyclist accident. Miami crash survivor
Enda Walsh, 48, told reporters,
“We were cycling up the Key Biscayne bridge side by side, in the bike lane, having a conversation. We didn’t even see anything. then there was a loud bang and the next thing you know I was on the ground and Aaron was 30 feet up the road lying on his back on the road not moving.”
According to
Miami Police Detective Lorraine Rubio, evidence at the scene suggested the
hit-and-run car was a silver Honda Civic (2009 – 2011 model). That vehicle apparently slammed into Walsh and another cyclist,
Aaron Cohen, 37, as they traveled in the eastbound bike lane of the Rickenbacker Causeway--which connects Miami to Key Biscayne and Virginia Key.
Responding paramedics rushed the
injured bike riders to Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital following the horrific cyclist accident. While Walsh was treated for a leg injury and then released from the hospital, Cohen’s
injuries were far more
severe. Cohen underwent
brain surgery upon arriving at the hospital. He was subsequently listed in
extremely critical condition. It was not clear if Cohen sustained a
traumatic brain injury (TBI) in the
traffic crash. The search for the
hit-and-run driver involved in the injurious
Miami crash continues.
